Style and Design
A compact little glass aquarium which will sit nicely on a table in the corner of the room. This Fish r Fun model measures a neat 37 x 33 x 47 cm (L x W x H) and is available in either black or white versions. The capacity is just about the minimum we'd recommend and it's an ideal starter tank for coldwater fish or, with the addition of a suitable heater, small tropicals.
Lighting
An LED lighting system is built into the plastic hood for bright energy saving illumination. Older style models include an energy efficient 5w bulb.
Filtration
The outfit also includes a tank top filtration system featuring an easy change cartridge
Heating
The tank isn't supplied with heating. For the capacity we'd recommend a heater with a minimum rating of 25 watts. This shouldn't involve much additional expenditure - you can usually find a good selection on Amazon. Price and availability
The Fish r Fun 21.6 litre Hexagonal tank has limited online availability in the UK - check out our price guide above. Generally availability in black is better that the white version. Our Verdict
Not specifically a corner tank, this Fish r Fun hexagonal model lends itself well to a corner location, largely by virtue of its compact dimensions as well as its rather attractive hexagonal shape. It's ideal as a starter aquarium and makes a great birthday or Christmas present for a young fishkeeper - yes, there are smaller "nano" style aquariums around but we wouldn't recommend anything with a capacity much less than this model's 21.6 litres. Go much smaller and the chances are the tank will be overcrowded - with all the problems and stresses on the fish that that involves.
As it is, we see this tank as suited to one or two small coldwater fish or perhaps a slightly greater number of small tropicals. We think the model in the illustration has too many fish in it, especially as they are likely to grow over time. That's something to keep in mind - as well as the capacity of your chosen tank inhabitants to breed!
Note that the outfit isn't supplied with a heater and you'll have to invest in one if warm water fish are to be kept. Maintenance should be relatively straightforward with the included tank top filtration system featuring an easy change cartridge. Don't neglect tank maintenance - it's particularly important with a smaller capacity model.
There's not much more to be said about this entry level aquarium from Fish r Fun. It's not really a model for the "serious" aquarist but it can provide a super introduction to the hobby and it's unlikely to be long before the owner is hooked. It looks like a well thought out design and the integrated LED lighting and filtration systems keep up well with modern standards. It's sold primarily as a coldwater model but it's a simple exercise to add a heater to facilitate a tropical setup and, indeed, customer feedback suggests the design can easily accommodate this.
If we do have a criticism it's that it is just verging on the small side although that's not a problem as long as you're disciplined when it comes to the size and number of fish you add. We think it probably works great as a gift to introduce a youngster to the responsibilities of fishkeeping.
